Cause

The "File system error (-2147219196)" message is typically caused by a corrupted system file or a bug in a Microsoft Store app or Windows Update.

This error doesn't just appear when opening images, but can also appear when opening PDF, document, and video files.

Also, for hard disk drives (HDDs) and SSDsBad sectorIf there is, an error may occur.

Solution

1. Repair Microsoft Store apps

2. Reset all Microsoft Store apps

1.Start buttonRight-click and open Terminal (Admin).

2. Type the following command and press Enter:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

The above command will reset the Windows Store app (Microsoft Store app).

When you execute the command, the progress of the extraction process will be displayed as shown below. An error may occur, but please wait.

3. Once the process has stopped, close Windows PowerShell and try opening the app.

Once you execute the command, the process will begin, so please wait for a while.

5. Windows Update

For example, if an error occurs in an app after updating Windows Update, the error may be caused by an update that was installed at that time.

Recently, various errors have been occurring with the Windows 11 update KB5034204.

Microsoft's Visual C++ team appears to have identified the cause of the "File system error (-2147219196)" error that has been occurring in many environments recently as a regression in the vclibs framework package, which the Photos app and other apps depend on.
