New bug discovered in Windows 11 22H2: USB flash drives and other devices cannot be removed

According to foreign media Deskmodder, a new bug has been discovered in Windows version 22H2.

The bug occurs when the Task Manager is open, and the following warning screen appears, preventing the removal of external devices such as USB memory sticks.

"An error occurred while removing the USB mass storage device
This device is currently in use. Please close any programs or windows that are using the device and try again."

I actually tried this myself, and when I removed the USB while the "Processes" tab in Task Manager was open, a warning screen appeared.

This bug does not occur all the time and can sometimes be removed even if you have the Processes tab open.

After trying it a few times, I noticed that the light on the USB memory stick was lit when the warning screen appeared.

If you remove the USB with the "Process" tab open, it appears that some kind of access is occurring.

The warning screen will not appear if other tabs are open.

Also, if I connected the USB memory while the "Processes" tab in Task Manager was already open, I was able to remove it normally.

This bug has not been announced by Microsoft, so there is currently no solution.

  • I'm using Windows 10 Pro and I've had problems since I updated to 22H2. It started in June. I noticed it too late, so I don't know which update is causing the problem.
In the case of a USB memory stick, select the drive, right-click, and you will see the option to remove it from the drop-down menu.If you select it, it will say ``In use,'' but you can force the removal by selecting ``Continue.''
The only problem I have is that the USB external hard drive doesn't appear in the dropdown menu, so I can only remove it by shutting down the computer. This is extremely frustrating, but it seems like Microsoft just doesn't care.
