NVIDIA issue recurs: Screen flickering and black screen & workaround

This time, we will introduce the problems that occur with NVIDIA graphics drivers and how to avoid them.

It appears that a previously fixed bug has recurred in the NVIDIA graphics driver (536.67 WHQL) released on 2023/07/18.

Many users are currently reporting issues, and while the screen flickering seems to go away if you turn off G-SYNC (which reduces image lag), there is still the issue of the game screen losing its smoothness depending on the environment.

Turning off G-SYNC seems to fix the screen flickering, but it doesn't seem to fix the random black screen issue.

Aside from the flickering and black screen issues, there are also issues with the game crashing.

In my environment, I installed 536.67 and observed the situation, and none of the above problems occurred even when G-SYNC was turned on.

Driver issues

If the problem is with the driver itself, installing an older driver may solve the problem.

Try reverting to a previous version of the driver and see what happens.

*We confirmed on the GeForce forum that the screen flickering has been occurring since version 528.24.

Configuration Issues

This is just my opinion, but I think the setting has a big influence.

Most users experiencing the issue experience the symptoms while playing games.

Many gamers probably change the settings in the "Manage 3D Settings" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel.

The NVIDIA drivers are already optimized for games, so we recommend using the default settings unless you have specific needs.

If you have changed any settings, you may be able to avoid the issue by resetting them to their default settings.

1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.

To open the NVIDIA Control Panel, right-click on an empty area of your desktop and click "NVIDIA Control Panel" from the menu that appears.
