How to fix the Windows 11 upgrade error "0xc190012e"

When upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, in some environments there is an issue where the download stops midway even when you press the "Download and Install" button.

This issue can cause upgrades to fail, resulting in the error message "This update couldn't be installed. Please try again (0xc190012e)."

Solution

This solution should only be performed after a failed upgrade to Windows 11.

Before you perform an upgrade, these folders will not exist.

1. Press Windows key + R to open Run.

2. Enter the following code and press Enter:

%systemdrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WSUS

3. The WSUS folder will open. Delete the file "SetupConfig.ini" inside, or rename it to something like "SetupConfig.ini.bak".

4. Restart your computer once.

5. Once your PC boots, try upgrading to Windows 11 again.

If the above methods do not resolve the issue and you cannot find "SetupConfig.ini", please see the following page.
