I think there are many people who use web browsers other than Microsoft Edge in environments using Windows 10 or Windows 11.
There are many websites on the Internet that tell you how to uninstall (delete) Microsoft Edge, but you should never delete it.
Why you shouldn't uninstall (delete) Microsoft Edge
The reason you should not uninstall (delete) Microsoft Edge is because it is a system component.
Simply put, system components are parts of the program that Windows needs to run properly.
*Windows has many system components.
Why can't I uninstall Microsoft Edge?(Microsoft)
For example, just as a mouse won't work without its drivers, Windows won't function properly without Microsoft Edge, which is part of the system.
Being part of the Windows system means that some Windows programs depend on Microsoft Edge.
If you forcibly uninstall (delete) Microsoft Edge, programs that depend on Microsoft Edge will not be able to find it when they need it, resulting in errors.
In some cases, you may not be able to move forward from there.
Because of these issues, Microsoft has made it impossible to uninstall Microsoft Edge.
What exactly happens if you remove Microsoft Edge?
After receiving comments from users, we decided to check what kind of impact deleting Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11 would have.
The currently confirmed issues are as follows:
- You will not be able to open the web page without another browser.
- Copilot will no longer be available.
- You will not be able to open web pages from some Windows items, software help, etc. (They will stop responding).
- When you search using the search box on the taskbar, all of the "Search the web" results that appear become unresponsive when clicked.
The following image shows the results that appear when you search for "Windows 11" in the search box on the taskbar.
The areas surrounded by red frames are all set to open in Microsoft Edge, so clicking on them will not respond.
Copilot is a feature that is based on Microsoft Edge, so it will not launch without Microsoft Edge.
If you are unable to open web pages from certain Windows items, software help, etc., you can open them if you have another browser installed and set it as the default browser.
However, you cannot open the "Search the web" results that appear when you search from the taskbar search box in another browser.
No other issues were identified, but if there are any changes in future Windows Updates, other issues may arise.
