If your PC is running erratically, it may be due to a problem with your system memory.
Problems with your system memory can cause your PC to lose information or stop working.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 have a built-in tool called the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool that can diagnose system memory problems.
Diagnose your system memory with the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run, type the following command and press Enter:
mdsched.exe
2. "Windows Memory Diagnostic" will open, so click "Restart now and check for problems (recommended)".
*Before restarting, save your work and close all open programs.
3. Your PC will immediately restart and run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, so please leave it running until the diagnosis is complete.
It took about an hour in my environment (32GB memory), but it may take longer or shorter depending on your environment.
*The Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool displays the message "The test results will be displayed again after you log on." However, sometimes nothing is displayed even when Windows starts up.
4. Once the diagnosis is complete, the computer will automatically restart and start up into Windows.
*If notifications are enabled, the Windows Memory Diagnostic notification will be displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen (enabled by default).
You can also check the test results in the Event Viewer.
Check the diagnostic results of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool in the Event Viewer
1.Start buttonRight-click and click Event Viewer.
2. The Event Viewer will open. Click "System" under "Windows Logs." When the events appear on the right, right-click on "System" and click "Filter Current Log."
3. Under "Event Source", check "MemoryDiagnostics-Results".
*The diagnostic results of the "Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool" will be displayed in "MemoryDiagnostics-Results".
4. Click OK.
5.Then, the "MemoryDiagnostics-Results" event will be displayed.
Clicking on an item on the right will display the diagnostic results in the "General" tab below.
If you've noticed your PC is not working properly recently, try using the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool to diagnose system memory issues.
