Windows Spotlight is a beautiful landscape photo that changes daily and is displayed on the Windows lock screen and desktop background.
While these images are attractive, they are stored deep inside your PC in a special format with no extension, making them difficult to find and use as wallpaper.
In this article, we will introduce a useful tool that automatically finds hidden Spotlight images, displays them in a dedicated viewer, and allows you to set your favorite ones as your desktop wallpaper or save them wherever you like.
You can easily switch between images using the arrow buttons "←" and "→".
Clicking the "Set as Wallpaper" button will immediately set the currently displayed image as your wallpaper.
When you click the "Save" button, a folder selection screen will appear. Select the folder you want and click the "Select Folder" button to save the image.
The desktop folder will open by default, so just click the "Select Folder" button and it will be saved to your desktop.
If a file with the same name already exists, a confirmation dialog box for overwriting will be displayed. Click "Yes" to overwrite the file.
How the tool works: View, save, and set Spotlight images as wallpaper
Daily Spotlight images are saved in the following folder:
C:\Users\ユーザー名\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
The saved file name isextensionのない「f5c6bafd9fb3dff3ce5a8e4fe892b50e2077e3f1a6c39dcabdc35478a7880d3b」のような長い名前です。
*These files are changed every day, so if you do not save them, they will eventually disappear.
Copy this file, name it (a number) and give it an extension, create a folder called "Wallpaper" in your temporary folder, and save the image in it.
Temporary files are usually found in the following locations:
C:\Users\ユーザー名\AppData\Local\Temp
Folder where the images are stored:
C:\Users\ユーザー名\AppData\Local\Temp\Wallpaper
When you run the tool, it first performs the above steps, then retrieves the first image from the saved images and displays it in the tool.
The size (resolution) of the image you want to set as wallpaper is displayed in the upper left corner of the tool, so if you select an image that is the same size as your screen resolution, it will display nicely.
If you select a size (portrait) that is different from the resolution, the image will be enlarged by default.
*There are two types of spotlight images: vertical and horizontal.
