This time, we will show you how to add "Restart Explorer" to the taskbar in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
You can easily restart Windows Explorer by pinning the "Restart Explorer" shortcut to the taskbar.
How to add "Restart Explorer" to the taskbar
1. Right-click on an empty area of the desktop > New > Shortcut.
2. The "Create Shortcut" screen will appear. Copy and paste the following command under "Enter the location of the item" and click "Next".
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c taskkill /f /im explorer.exe&ping -n 3 127.0.0.1>nul&start explorer
3. Under "Enter a name for this shortcut", type "Restart File Explorer" and click "Finish".
4. A shortcut called "Restart Explorer" will be created, so right-click on the shortcut and click "Properties".

5. The "Restart Explorer Properties" window will open, so click "Change Icon".
6. Under "Search for icons in this file," "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" is entered, so change it to the following file path:
C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll
7. After changing the file path, press Enter and an icon will be displayed. Select the icon you like and click OK.
8. Once you have confirmed that the icon has been changed, click OK to apply the settings.
The icon for the "Restart Explorer" shortcut has changed.

9. Right-click on the "Restart Explorer" shortcut and click "Pin to taskbar".
*For Windows 11, right-click on the shortcut > Check other options > click "Pin to taskbar."


Now that "Restart Explorer" has been added to the taskbar, you can delete the desktop shortcut.
Clicking "Restart Explorer" will close all Explorers (desktop and folders), run Explorer after 3 seconds, and display the desktop.
The screen will be white or black while Explorer is restarting.
Some issues with Windows 11 Explorer have yet to be resolved, so please try the convenient "Restart Explorer" feature.
