What to do if changing the keyboard layout in Win11 doesn't work

This time, we will show you what to do if keyboard layout changes are not reflected in Windows 11.

For example,Latest Windows 11 ISO fileIf you perform a new installation, the setup screen will be changed to the new version.

Even if you download a Japanese ISO file, the default setting will be "PC/AT Extended Keyboard (101/102 keys)." If you proceed with the installation without noticing, the keyboard layout will become an English keyboard (101/102 keys).

If your keyboard layout is set to English (101/102 keys), you can switch between half-width English characters and Hiragana by clicking "A" in the task tray (notification area).

However, for example, if you press the "@" key, "[" will be entered, so to enter "@" you will have to press Shift + 2.

Therefore, if you want to switch back to the Japanese keyboard, you will need to change the keyboard layout to "Japanese keyboard (106/109 keys)."

Learn how to change your keyboard layout

1.Start buttonRight-click > Settings > Time and Language > Language and Region.

2. Click "⋅⋅⋅" to the right of "Japanese" and then click "Language Options."

"Settings" > "Time and Language" > "Language and Region"
"Settings" > "Time and Language" > "Language and Region"

3. Open "Settings" > "Time & Language" > "Language & Region" > "Options", then scroll down and click the "Change layout" button.

You will need to restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

However, in Windows 11, even if you change the keyboard layout and restart your PC, the change may not be reflected.

This may be a bug in Windows 11.

In that case,

1.Start buttonRight-click > Settings > Time & Language > Input > Advanced keyboard settings.

2. In "Override default input method", "Use language list (recommended)" is selected by default,

"Settings" > "Time and Language" > "Typing" > "Advanced keyboard settings"
"Settings" > "Time and Language" > "Typing" > "Advanced keyboard settings"

Please change it to "Japanese - Microsoft IME" or similar, then change it back to "Use language list (recommended)."

"Settings" > "Time and Language" > "Typing" > "Advanced keyboard settings"
"Settings" > "Time and Language" > "Typing" > "Advanced keyboard settings"

This will override your settings and the keyboard layout change will take effect immediately.

By the way, even if your keyboard layout is an English keyboard (101/102 keys), you may be able to input using the same input method as a Japanese keyboard (106/109 keys) by simply selecting "Japanese - Microsoft IME" without changing the keyboard layout. *This may also be a bug.
