The Windows 11 version 24H2 update KB5051987 fixes an issue that could cause colors in games to appear incorrectly and some games to become unresponsive.
The above issue occurred when the Windows feature "Auto HDR" was enabled, which improves the gaming experience by automatically converting standard dynamic range (SDR) content to high dynamic range (HDR).
KB5051987 will be applied automatically if Windows Update is enabled.
Microsoft has applied a safeguard hold (ID 55382406) to environments where this issue may occur, but says it will lift the hold in the next few days.
What is a safeguard hold:
Simply put, it means blocking newly released updates (new versions) from being offered to environments where applying the updates would cause problems.
Once the safeguard hold is lifted, the Windows 11 version 24H2 update will be available to previously blocked environments.
For example, if you are currently on Windows 11 version 23H2, it will automatically update to version 24H2.
The end of support date for Windows 11 version 23H2 is November 11, 2025, so if you don't want to update to version 24H2 yet, please refer to the following page.
