This firmware updateyesterday's articleIt is unclear whether this was reported in the article (although it is almost certain), but updating the firmware when updating the driver poses a significant risk for users.

*In reality, it is not clear (when) the firmware was actually updated at the same time as the driver was updated.

This update appears to be causing the following issues in some environments:

  • Blue screen
  • RGB and fan control via Predator Bifrost Utility is no longer possible
  • The fan starts spinning erratically
  • The monitor goes blank
  • Video editing stops midway and freezes (becomes unresponsive)
  • The screen goes black
  • Sound glitches occur
  • Freezes and is forced to restart

The blue screen error that some users have seen is "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE".

The VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE bug check has a value of 0x00000116. This bug check indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.
