How to display the Control Panel and other items on the Windows 11 desktop

This time, on the Windows 11 desktop

  • PC ("PC" in File Explorer)

  • Recycle Bin (can be hidden)

Here's how to display icons such as:

When you perform a clean install of Windows 11, only the Recycle Bin and Microsoft Edge are displayed on the desktop.

If it is a manufacturer's computer, icons for the manufacturer's website or apps may be displayed.

By displaying folders you frequently use on your desktop, you can quickly open them, so please give it a try.

Select the icons to display from "Desktop Icon Settings"

1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run, type the following command and press Enter:

rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,,0

2. "Desktop Icon Settings" will open, so check the items you want to display and click "Apply" or "OK."

The "Recycle Bin" that is displayed by default can be hidden from the "Desktop Icon Settings," so try customizing it to your liking.

How to display Control Panel icons on the desktop

For example, if you are displaying the Control Panel icon on your desktop to open an item in the Control Panel, it would be more efficient to display the icon for that item.

1. Open the Control Panel.

2. When you open the Control Panel, it is displayed by default in categories.

Therefore, click "Category" to the right of "View by" to change the display method.

3. Click "Large icons" or "Small icons."

4. Click and hold on any icon in the Control Panel, drag it to the desktop, and then release the click (drag and drop).

A shortcut icon will then appear on your desktop.

You can open items in the Control Panel directly from the shortcut icon, so try adding any items you like.
