Fixes Win11 24H2 KB5046740 error 0x800f0905 etc.

Microsoft released a preview of the Windows 11 24H2 update KB5046740 on November 21, 2024.

KB5046740 fixes an issue where error 0x800f0905 may occur when installing updates.

This update also fixes an issue where items in the navigation pane on the left side of File Explorer would be too far apart, but it did not fix an issue where the menu that appears when you click "More (...)" would be displayed on top.

Solved! Win11 24H2 Explorer "See more" menu appears at the top

When updating KB5046740, it may depend on your environment, but in my environment I have confirmed that the app stops working for several minutes when the download reaches 5%.

In fact, the download was progressing, so if you experience the same symptoms during installation, check whether Windows Update is progressing, and if it is, do not force quit it midway.

The next page explains how to check if Windows Update is progressing, so please check it if necessary.

  • Since upgrading to 24H2, I've noticed that desktop icons are more likely to be delayed slightly when starting up my computer. I've tried rebuilding the icon cache, but it still happens occasionally. Also, I'm not sure if this is the cause, but when I run a surface test on the SSD, it seems to be slower than before. It could also be due to age-related degradation, so I'm not sure. However, the performance in CrystalDiskMark is not much different from the official values, so I'm not sure what the issue is. It's a WD SN570.

  • The preview release for 23H2 came out today, and 24H2 also came out in my environment, so I installed it and applied the preview release. I haven't encountered any issues so far, but even though I updated, rebooted, and it should have been applied, when I rebooted again after that (without installing anything new), the "updating" screen appeared. Is this a common occurrence?

    • Thank you for your comment, Siden.

Yes, I have recently confirmed that when restarting after updating the update, the updating screen is displayed. In some cases, the device may automatically restart (only once) from that screen.

      • Thank you for your reply. The updating screen appeared twice, but it hasn't recurred yet. I've successfully created the recovery drive. It might just be my imagination, but the sound I hear when connecting a USB device seems different. Is this a change or a bug?

        • Dear Siden,

          >The sound that comes out when I connect a device to the USB seems to have changed. Is this a change or a bug?
There is no information on this, but when I checked the sound file when connecting the device it was exactly the same, so it might just be my imagination.

The device connection sound file can be found here:
C:\Windows\Media\Windows Hardware Insert.wav (24H2 may display the file name as "Windows Hardware Insert.wav" in Japanese, but the actual file name is in English.)

          • Thank you. It seems like there are some hidden issues that I don't really understand, so I'm not sure.
It seems that there are problems with Creative's Sound BlasterX G6, so it seems like there may be something related to USB.

          • Thanks for the info, Siden.

It seems like you're having issues with the sound level increasing to 100%. After checking, it seems like there are other USB related issues as well.
