This time, we will introduce what to do if your PC screen is malfunctioning, causing parts of the top, bottom, left, or right edges to turn black, or colored lines to appear, causing problems when you are working.
The method we will introduce here is for those who are using Windows 10 or Windows 11 and don't mind having a smaller screen when their PC monitor is physically damaged and they can't do anything about it.
Simply put, it is a way to make the displayed screen smaller and narrower on the top, bottom, left and right.
If part of your PC monitor goes black, it can be very distracting when watching videos or working.
By narrowing the top and bottom or left and right, you can avoid using the edges of the screen where the display cannot be displayed normally.
How to create a custom resolution to reduce the top, bottom, left, and right of the screen
This section explains how to configure the settings using the NVIDA Control Panel and the Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel.
Shift+right-click on an empty area of your desktop to open your graphics control panel.
If the Graphics Control Panel is not visible:
What to do if you can't change the screen brightness in Win10/Win11 Please refer to Solution 3 above and open your Control Panel.
How to check the current resolution, refresh rate, and maximum resolution
The resolution will vary depending on your monitor, so be sure to check it.
1. Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and click "Display settings".
2. Click "Advanced display settings".
The "Desktop Resolution" or "Desktop Mode" displayed in the display information is the current resolution, and the "Active Signal Resolution" or "Active Signal Mode" is the maximum resolution of your monitor.
To find the refresh rate, look at the number followed by Hz. (Don't worry about decimals.)
NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
1. Once the NVIDA Control Panel opens, click "Change resolution" in the menu on the left.
First, make a note of your current resolution and refresh rate.
In the image below, it says 1080p, 1920 x 1080 (native). (Note the 1920 (width) x 1080 (height) dimensions.)
*Usually it is set to the maximum resolution.
2. Next, click the "Customize" button on the right.
3. Check "Enable resolutions not visible on this display" and click the "Create custom resolutions" button.

It's written in a complicated way, but to put it simply,If you set the resolution higher than your monitor's maximum, you may damage your monitor."Please note.
So, be sure to check the current resolution andMaximum resolution, make a note of the refresh rate.
*There is no problem if you set it to a smaller resolution than the current one.
5. "Create Custom Resolution" will appear, so change the horizontal pixels (width) in ① and the vertical lines (height) in ②.
For example, if the top 1 cm of your monitor is not displayed properly, reduce the pixels of the vertical line.
This time, change the vertical line pixels from 1080 to 980. (Be careful not to make a mistake)
100 pixels is about 2.6 cm, so the top and bottom will be 1.3 cm narrower (measure this with a ruler).
6. Once you have changed the vertical line, click the "Test" button below.
7. The screen will turn black for a moment and the message "Apply Changes" will appear. Click "Yes" if you agree.
8. It will then turn black again and the resolution you set earlier will be added to "Resolution". Click OK.
10. Select the resolution you created and click the "Apply" button.
