Have you ever noticed that your Windows 10 or Windows 11 suddenly becomes slower or heavier while using it?
The entire computer may slow down, and opening Explorer or a web browser (Internet) may also become slow.
Before you decide to send your broken computer in for repairs, please first check the items introduced here.
What to check if your computer suddenly becomes slow
1. Background Apps
If your computer suddenly becomes slow while you are using it, it may be due to security software, some installed software, or Windows Update running in the background.
For example, on my computer I have installed a game launcher called "Epic Games launcher," and within that I have installed a game called Fortnite.
When the operation becomes slow, firstTask managerCheck the "Processes" tab.
The task manager also seems to open slowly.
In the image below, you can see that the Epic Games launcher is using a lot of CPU, memory, disk, and network resources.
When I opened the Epic Games launcher at this time, I saw a message that Fortnite was being updated and that the download might be slow due to low disk space.
*Fortnite is large, at several tens of GB, so updates take a very long time.
Also, some apps, not just the Epic Games launcher, may update immediately after starting your PC.
For example, the "Epic Games launcher" is launched by the Task Scheduler, so you can reduce the load at startup by delaying the launch of the "EpicGamesLauncher" task, as described on the following page.

2. Low disk space
If you are running low on free disk space, your computer will slow down.
This also affects the file download speed.
As you use Windows for a long time, many temporary files are created, which increases disk usage.
You can delete any unused temporary files, so check it out.
1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run, enter the following code and press Enter:
ms-settings:storagesense
2. "Storage" will be displayed, so click "Temporary files".
Windows 11:
Windows 10:
3.The temporary file items and descriptions will then be displayed as shown below. Read the description of each item carefully, check the items you want to delete, and click the "Delete Files" button.
3. System file errors
If there is an abnormality in the system files, the entire computer may run slowly even if there is sufficient free disk space and the CPU, memory, disk, or network are not being used.
If the above methods don't work, try repairing your system files.

4. Disabling the Service
Windows has many services running in the background, but each user has different purposes for using them, and some of them are unnecessary.
Here we will introduce one service that may cause problems such as slowing down your PC or being unable to connect to the Internet.
Microsoft collects information about you to help you improve your Windows experience and is constantly making improvements.
If "Send optional diagnostic data" is set to "On" in Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Diagnostics & Feedback, information will be sent automatically to Microsoft.
Press the Windows key + I, orStart buttonRight-click on the icon and click "Settings" to open the "Settings" screen.
The service that manages the collection and transmission of this diagnostic and user usage information is called "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry."
You can turn "Send optional diagnostic data" "On" or "Off" only if the "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry" service is running. If the service is not running, turning "On" or "Off" has no effect.
It is usually best to leave this service as is to use Windows better, but depending on your environment, it may put a heavy load on your hard disk and slow down your entire PC.
In rare cases, when connected to Wi-Fi, the message "Limited access" may appear, preventing you from connecting to the Internet.
Disabling the "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry" service will not affect your system, so if you experience any of the symptoms above, try disabling it.
1. Press Windows key + R to open Run, type "services.msc" and press Enter.
2. The services will open, so double-click "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry" to open it.
3. Click the Stop button in Service status to stop the service.
4. Select Disabled for Startup type (E): and click OK to close the service.
