How to revert the Details Pane in Windows 11 Explorer to the previous version

The "Details Pane" in Windows 11 Explorer was changed to a new version, the "Details Pane," in last year's (2023) update.

However, the new version's "Details window" is difficult to use, and many users probably want to go back to the old version.

In the previous version of the "Details window," the update date and time and size were displayed right next to the file, allowing you to quickly check file information and even change tags for image files.

How to revert the Details Pane in Windows 11 to the previous version

2024 / 06 / 18:

If you have installed KB5037853 (released on May 29, 2024) or KB5039212 (released on June 11, 2024) or later, you will no longer be able to revert to the previous version of the Details Window using the method in this article.

I tried to verify this, but the switch to revert to the old version of the "Details Window" itself has been removed (obsolete), and although I tried disabling hundreds of IDs using "ViVeTool," I was unable to make any changes.

I was able to restore it using a different method, and added a function to restore it to the "Details window" to the tool I created, "RestoreOldExplorerRibon," so please use that.

A tool to completely restore the old Windows Explorer (with ribbon)

1. First, you need to download "ViVeTool". Please download "ViVeTool-v0.3.3.zip" from the following page.

https://github.com/thebookisclosed/ViVe/releases/

As of 2024/02/22, the latest version is v0.3.3.

ViVeTool-v0.3.3

With the newly introduced ARM64 support, this release comes in two versions:
ViVeTool-v0.3.3.zip is compatible with Intel and AMD CPUs (usually used here)
ViVeTool-v0.3.3-ARM64CLR.zip is compatible with Qualcomm Snapdragon and Microsoft SQ CPUs

2. Download the zip fileUnzipand open the extracted folder.

3. Once you have opened the folder, copy the path of "ViVeTool" in the Explorer address bar.

4.Start buttonRight-click, open "Terminal (Administrator)", and type "cd" (with a half-width space after cd).

5. Right-click to paste the copied path, then press Enter.

It's OK if it looks like the following image.

Windows PowerShell

6. Copy and paste the following command and press Enter:

./vivetool /disable /id:38613007

If it says "Successfully set feature configuration(s)", then it's OK.

This completes the settings to revert to the previous version of the Details Window, so please restart your PC.

When your PC boots up, the old version of the "Details Window" will be restored.

  • This is my second post under this handle.

When I applied KB5039212 from June 2024, the issue I previously reported on the following page, "where multiple icons become blurry when the new details window in Explorer is displayed," reappeared without exception, which was quite concerning to me.

    Windows 11 KB5032190 Explorer issue
    https://windows-waza.com/win11-kb5032190-explorer-problem/

However, when I downloaded RestoreOldExplorerRibon and restored the details window to the old style, the blurry icon problem was also resolved. Thank you very much again!

It has been more than six months since the release of Windows 11 23H2, and it seems that the above issues have finally been recognized, but there is little information available online.

Just to be safe, I reported this "blurry icon problem" to Microsoft's feedback, but since it's a bug that's very hard to notice, it will probably be difficult for Microsoft to address it.

  • Nice to meet you.
I saw this post and reverted the details window to the old version, but in a recent update (I stopped updating so I don't know the exact release date), the details window reverted to the new version again, and I can no longer revert to the old version using the method above.
Is there any way to revert to the older version?

    Versions are:

    Windows 11 Home 23H2

    .
I look forward to working with you.

    • Thank you for your comment, Hoshizaki-san.

If you install KB5037853 released on May 29, 2024 or KB5039212 released on June 11, 2024 or later, it appears that you will not be able to revert using the method described in this article.
There is currently no other way to revert the Details window to the previous version. I will update this article as soon as I find out anything else.

I have tried to verify this, but the switch to revert to the old version of the "Details Window" has been removed (obsolete), and I have tried disabling several hundred IDs with "ViVeTool," but I was unable to make any changes. However, it may be possible to revert to the previous version without using "ViVeTool."
