Things to check before setting up automatic sign-in

Automatic sign-in is very convenient, but there are a few important things you should know before setting it up.

It is especially important to have a thorough understanding of the security aspects.

Understanding Security Risks

Enabling automatic sign-in means you won't need to enter your password when you start your PC, making it easier for someone else to access your PC.

Security risks are particularly high when using shared PCs or laptops that are at risk of being stolen or lost.

When setting up automatic sign-in, please carefully consider your own usage environment and security requirements.

Disable Windows Hello sign-in

If you're using a Microsoft account and have Windows Hello (PIN, Face ID, Fingerprint ID, etc.) enabled, you might not see the option to set up automatic sign-in.

This is because Windows Hello provides greater security and may conflict with automatic sign-in. You must disable Windows Hello sign-in using the following steps:

1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run, type the following command and press Enter:

ms-settings:signinoptions
Run
Run

2. Open "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Sign-in options". Scroll down and click "For increased security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (recommended)" to "Off."

Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options
Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options

If it's grayed out and you can't turn it off, try adding another sign-in method, such as a PIN, and then try again.
