NVIDIA has announced that installing graphics driver 555.xx or later on some older PCs may cause a blue screen of death (BSOD) when booting Windows.
This applies to PCs with older CPUs that do not have the POPCNT instruction.
These CPUs are no longer supported by Windows 10 and Windows 11.
You can check whether the CPU in your PC supports the POPCNT instruction by downloading and running "Coreinfo" from the Microsoft website.
Steps to check if your CPU supports the POPCNT instruction
1. Open the following page and click "Download Coreinfo" to download it.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/coreinfo
2. Copy the downloaded "Coreinfo.zip"Unzipand open the "Coreinfo" folder.
There are four files inside.
3. Right-click on an empty area in the "Coreinfo" folder and click "Open in Terminal".
4. Type the following command and press Enter:
.\Coreinfo
5. CPU information will then be displayed, so look for "POPCNT".
If "* (asterisk) Supports POPCNT instruction" is displayed to the right of "POPCNT", the CPU supports the POPCNT instruction.
If the CPU does not support the POPCNT instruction
If your CPU does not support the POPCNT instruction, please use a previous version of the graphics driver (before 555.xx).
According to the official website, the latest version before 555.xx is 552.44.
